Thoughts from the WRFR Sports Desk

BY JACQUES STRAP

How about those Red Sox, holding down last place in the AL East. Time for a salary dump? Time to put Jacques Strap in the line up. I will volunteer myself to happily dona uniform and strike out four times per game at a much lower salary than current Red Sox Players. And how about those Patriots? The current Mike Vrabel situation makes one long for a return of a more wholesome situation such as Bill Belichick and the Miss Maine USA pageant runner-up. And another thing, what's up with doctor's offices and pharmacies always asking to confirm your birthdate? It serves as a constant reminder of how many decades have passed since that blessed event occurred. Instead of a birth year, how about we use a secret code word to confirm our identity? Till next time, this is Jacques Strap signing out.

Superman
by Scott Kinnamon

The thing about Clark Kent
is that he never
acts like Superman.

He never complains
about the pinch of his tights
beneath his pleated, wool trousers.

"I don't know about that, Lois,"
he says each time
she offers him praise.

X-ray eyes sparkle
behind the thick,
non-corrective lenses of
his horn-rimmed glasses.

Few men travel with such grace
through their daily planets,
a phone booth away
from perfection.

We Love Local Musicians!

Featured Musician: Paddy Mills

Paddy Mills is a Maine-based folk singer and songwriter whose music carries the salt air of the North Atlantic

and the stories of the people who live by it. With a voice both warm and weathered, Paddy's songs navigate the waters between tradition and modern life- celebrating working folks, coastal communities, and the enduring pull of the sea.

Mills has played coffeehouses, concert halls, schooners, ketch's and festivals across the Northeast, earning a loyal following for his evocative songwriting and unpretentious style. His performances feel like conversations between old friends. His original songs, such as Cribbage in the Corner reflect his deep connection to Maine's maritime culture and the people who make their living close to nature's edge.

You can find him this summer on A Morning in Maine sailing charter, at the Maine Lobster Festival, and other Midcoast gatherings.
